Taxes on Patronix
Patronix handles VAT on purchases of digital patterns made by consumers located in the European Union. Here we explain what Patronix does, what each buyer sees and what it means for designers.
Current scope: European Union only. For now, Patronix does not charge taxes on purchases from outside the EU.
Summary
- For purchases from the European Union, Patronix calculates the VAT, collects it and files it under its own registration in the EU One-Stop Shop (OSS).
- VAT is added to the price at checkout, at the rate of the buyer's country.
- VAT is not part of the designer's earnings and is not deducted from them.
Which purchases include VAT?
What matters is where the buyer is, not where the designer lives.
| Buyer in… | Designer in… | Is VAT charged? |
|---|---|---|
| Spain | Spain | Yes, Spanish VAT |
| France | Spain | Yes, French VAT |
| Spain | Chile | Yes, Spanish VAT |
| Mexico | Spain | No |
| United States | Spain | No |
- Only buyers located in a European Union country pay VAT, at their own country's rate.
- If you are a designer in the EU and someone outside the EU buys from you, the sale does not include VAT.
- If you are a designer outside the EU and someone in the EU buys from you, the sale does include VAT, and Patronix handles it too.
